Acupuncture is a form of health care that evolved into a complete and holistic medical system. This system of medicine has developed over 2000 years whereby practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnose and treat patients based on diagnosing patterns of disharmony in individuals.
By placing fine sterile needles at specific locations an acupuncturist promotes natural healing by enhancing immunity, and physical and emotional well being. Acupuncture can be helpful not only for treating existing illnesses and injuries but also for preventing the recurrence of illnesses.
At the core of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the philosophy that our “ Life Energy” or “Qi” flows in channels (or meridians) throughout the body and over its surfaces. This energy or “ Qi” which flows through these meridians forms a network interconnecting the organs and nourishes all parts of the body.
When the body is internally balanced and in harmony with the external environment, Qi flows smoothly through the meridians to nourish the organs and tissues. When there is a blockage in this flow, the body’s balance is disrupted and illness results.
Acupuncture engages the “Qi” by inserting needles at specific points, restoring the flow and helps the body regain its natural balance.
